Summer vacation is on the horizon, and with only about a month left of school, it is a great idea to make certain you finish strong. All the hard work you've put in throughout the year shouldn't go to waste--continuing that determination and productivity all the way to the end will make that first day of summer all the more rewarding.

With the onset of summer weather, students can become distracted from embracing their studies, feeling more motivated you to work on your tan, but its not the time for that just yet. You are so close, so relaxing can be detrimental to your grades. You've got all summer to spend time with friends!

Here are some key points on staying motivated and going full circle this year. This is the final stretch and you are so close to winning the race. If you consider these tips, you are guaranteed an outstanding finish that will keep your grades high going into exams and give you one more thing to celebrate this summer!

Staying Focused on Curriculum

In the last month, teachers need to fit in the last elements of the curriculum. Staying focused on what is being taught is crucial. You may think all the important topics are finished, but that is most likely not the case. Everything the teacher is assigning or teaching brings value to the course. Do not get in the habit of drifting off or daydreaming about summer in class, as chances are you'll be missing out on something important. Just becauses its June doesnt mean unit tests don't exist and many teachers like to cover curriculum that will be most prominent on the exam near the end of the year, so it stays fresh in your mind.

Stick to Studying and Assignments

A semester packed with work can be overwhelming near the end of the year, but this isn't an excuse to lose track of what's assigned to you and when its due. Keeping up to date with what needs to be done and handed in will be crucial for those extra marks that will make or break your 80 or 90 in a class. The same goes for assessments. If you are given a test, do not blow off studying just because you want to spend time outside. If it's a beautiful day, consider studying in a park or at the beach. A blanket, fresh air and a couple textbooks make the perfect recipe for memorizing formulas!

Remaining Committed to Extracurriculars

Many teams and clubs are created throughout the school year and many students tend to join more than one extracurricular activity. As June rolls around and a lot of teams come to an end, many clubs are still in full swing. Make sure you are staying updated about end of the year celebrations that you may be involved in because of your hard work, or even events that are still being planned to contribute to the end of the school year. Staying committed and involved is a reflection of character.

All this being said, if your year was not everything you hoped for it to be, you still have time to finish strong in your studies. Now is the time to boost your mark as much as possible going into the exam. Teams and clubs are always looking for new members in September and every season next year, so encourage yourself and friends to get involved in everything our school has to offer!
