Strong Finish to St. Joe’s Cross Country Season

Last Wednesday, the St. Joseph’s Cross Country team returned to Malden Park to compete at SWOSSAA. The Lasers had four teams running-midget girls, junior boys, senior girls, and senior boys. They were the teams from St. Joe’s that qualified last week at WECSSAA.

The courses were identical to those from WECSSAA, but the weather was dramatically different. The day was cloudy, cold, and many runners were forced to run through the rain. The courses were very muddy, which made it especially challenging and messy for runners. It was only near the end of the day that the sun came out and the rain stopped, just in time for the junior boys and senior races.

Despite the less than ideal conditions, the Lasers pushed through and displayed great determination and exciting races. Congratulations to Nicole L. who finished in third place after a great run that qualified her for OFSAA, which is being held in Petawawa on November 4th. Special mention to all of the grade twelves for whom this was their last race, and to the grade nines, who really stepped up during the season. “Very successful season, great team, the biggest team we’ve had in a long time and just a great group to coach.” said Mrs. Flynn, one of the cross country coaches.
