Ryan Hermes is a Grade 9 student with a passion for computers and football, which is a very wide range of interests. Ryan was born in Windsor, but his parents were actually born in Lebanon. He attended Saint-Thérèse School for all of his elementary years. This school was entirely francophone, which means that Ryan can speak both French and English. St Joseph's was the right place to go for him, as he wanted to have a look at what English classes were taught like as well, and now he has the chance to experience both types of learning in both languages.
Along with the new experience of English classes, there is another factor that causes Ryan to enjoy coming to the school every day––the vast variety of extra-curriculars. He says that there are many clubs and activities that are offered, which both impresses and intrigues him. He has never seen such a lineup; from a wrestling team, to a newspaper, and even a club for comic book fans! Ryan is proud to be at a school that offers so much for all of its students likes and interests.
In fact, Ryan is even involved in one of these activities himself. This season, he played centre position for the boy’s junior football team! The team had an absolutely great season, and made it all the way to the semi-finals. To Ryan, the first moments of each game and every win were amazing, and got his year off to a great start, as well as boosted his confidence.
As mentioned earlier, Ryan went to an all French elementary school, and came to St Joseph's to obtain an English learning experience too. Well, because he had so many prior years of French, he chose to partake in the French Immersion program. The French Immersion program is simply taking both French and English classes simultaneously. To Ryan, this program is extremely beneficial, because with this extra French training on his resume, more job opportunities could open up for him, as he has this program under his belt and is able to speak two languages fluently, which is a big deal in the job industry. Although it may be a bit more challenging, he says that it adds great experience to high school.
Ryan is on top of his future, and has already made of plan of what he wants to eventually do, which is pretty well organized with only being in just his first year of high school. After high school, Ryan wants to become a computer engineer––people who design and research components of computers. Around his home, he is gaining experience, as whenever an electronic breaks, he is running to fix it. As for how he is going to get there? That’s covered too. Ryan knows that high grades and schooling are essential for this field that he wants to enter, and that is why he is focused on achieving good marks in school, and maintaining them. This is very important to him. With this kind of attitude, it is pretty obvious that these goals will not be goals for much longer!
