Sofia Terrana: A Focused Perspective

Sofia Terrana is an adventurous and creative Grade 9 student with a passion for all things photography. She also has Argentinian heritage, and has family there as well. Before arriving at St Joseph’s last September, Sofia attended Hugh Beaton Public School, which she had attended for all of her elementary schooling.

As we are well into semester two, Sofia has been able to figure out all of her new classes, as well as her new schedule, and has become used to them too. She is liking her new courses so far, mostly due to the great teachers she has. She says that she is fond of having different courses because she can meet new people that she didn’t know from the first semester, and also because she can now be in classes with some of her friends who she didn’t get to see much before. As for the end of last semester, Sofia was pretty happy with her final marks, saying that she worked hard to end the semester on a high note.

While obtaining high grades is something to be proud of, Sofia has many other accomplishments and successes to look back on as well. First of all, she is a self-taught photographer. She taught herself how to use camera tricks and angles to create beautiful photos, and taking photographs has become a hobby of hers. A moment that Sofia will remember for the rest of her life is when Niagara Falls asked to feature one of her photos in an ad for the large tourist attraction. She was ecstatic about this, as her work was going to be published and displayed.

While on the topic of her photography, it has become a large part of Sofia’s life. It is a talent of hers that she practices all the time, and always strives to improve. She first got into the art form 2 years ago. Ever since, she sets down her camera wherever she can, and attempts to make everything look its best. The reason she is so in love with the hobby is because according to her, it is a way to express the creativity that she has, and it is also a way for her to create and to make things, which brings happiness into her life. She describes it as “painting a picture, and bringing her ideas to life in a photo.”

Surprisingly, Sofia does not want to pursue a career in photography. She has different dreams for her future. After high school, Sofia would like to go into the world of business, hoping to own a cafe, and to run an online clothing shop. Aside from the work aspect of her life, she also aspires to travel the world, particularly by planning a trip to the countries of Japan and South Korea, in an effort to experience and see all that those destinations have to offer. Closer to home, however, Sofia is definitely going to live in Argentina for a year of her life. She is Argentinian, and has lived in Canada for her whole life. She would like to go there to live a life she didn’t have here in Canada.
