Jennifer Costea is a bright, friendly grade eleven student at St. Joseph’s High School who is best known for her participation on the volleyball team and student council, as well as many other teams and clubs in the school.

Jennifer attended St. John Vianney Elementary School and a was student ambassador, which prepared her for student council later on in high school. Being a student ambassador taught her how to organize, plan, and delegate events around the school as well as represent her student body in the best way possible. She was also part of the track team and the volleyball team, as well as basketball and soccer. She made sure she put herself out there and joined as many teams as possible to expand her horizons to new sports and activities.

When Jennifer came to St. Joe’s, she joined student council as a grade nine representative and has since become the Minister of Public Affairs. She was also on the volleyball and softball team, Sears Fest Club, Best Buddies, and a writer for Laser News. Jennifer also participates in extracurriculars outside of the school such as piano, lifeguarding, and the LCHA program for people with disabilities. These many clubs and sports teams help Jennifer to be a very well- rounded person, and have helped her make new friends and learn new things. The transition from grade school to high school was definitely not easy for Jennifer because of the drastic change in the workload and amount of homework, but it was also a positive change because she got to meet new friends and had different peers in each class.

Jennifer has also earned herself a number of awards and accomplishments. In fact, she has been the top selling student for the Run For Rocky fundraiser for the past five years! Jennifer was also the valedictorian at her grade school graduation, and won second place at the Poetry In Voice competition last year. Jennifer made Honour Society and has won awards recognizing her piano skills.

After high school, Jennifer wants to pursue a career in business marketing which will allow her to use her creativity and communication skills to work with people and sell products. To further this goal, Jennifer is taking co-op at AIM Social Media Marketing where she does graphic designs, advertising, blog posts, articles, and analytics for social media engagement. She is also taking business classes in school to expand her knowledge in this particular field.

If Jennifer had to give grade nine students advice, she would tell them to embrace high school and all the opportunities it brings, because it goes by super fast. She would also say to get involved and make connections with teachers and students to make your transition easier. Also, she recommends developing a good reputation at school and "avoiding drama" because it’s useless. Lastly, she says to not care about what others think because in the end you create your own happiness.

“High school is super fast-paced and can be stressful, but if you have the right mindset and a good attitude, everything will seem easier”.
