St. Joes' Lasers Sport Jerseys in Honor of Humboldt Broncos


On April 12, 2018, students at St. Joseph’s high school showed support for the victims and families affected by the Humboldt Broncos’ bus crash.

Students showed their support by wearing jerseys or green shirts with their uniform bottoms and donating money for the cause. Student Council organized the collection, which totaled $890.

On April 6, 2018, the Humboldt Broncos collided with a semi-truck, killing 16 people and injuring 13. A campaign launched by a group of hockey moms in Langley, BC, to have people show support to the families of the victims. Organizers used the hashtag #jerseyforhumboldt on April 12 for everyone to share their photos of support by wearing jerseys.

Grade 12 student, Michael Clairmont, reflected on the day saying, “The jersey day helps us recognize the the cause and how everyone has respect for the victims and the families."

Teacher, Mr.Polewski, shared his support by saying, “It was fantastic, I thought it was great that we lend our support to Saskatchewan and everyone in the country. It was a great show of solidarity.”

Overall, over $15 million has been raised through a GoFund me account for this cause, when the original goal was $4 million. The entire country is praying for the families of the victims in the hope of easing the pain of losing their loved ones.
