Maya Rice: Putting the Pen to Paper

Maya Rice is an inventive and creative grade 9 student who is full of new and interesting ideas. Maya previously attended L.A Desmarais Catholic Elementary school before arriving at St Joseph's. She is very invested in the arts, literature and English.

Something that Maya has always loved to do, and really defines who she is at this point in her life, is writing. She never gets tired of crafting adventurous and intricate plots, and creating complex characters. She has enjoyed writing ever since she can remember, but her passion really took off when she was 11 years old, when she won her first writing competition. This inspired her to take what her hobby more seriously. From then on, she has continued to write and is always looking for new ways to improve her ability.

As much as she loves to write her own stories, she also loves to read others. Maya is a big fan of all kinds of books, and the primary genre that she enjoys reading is fiction, along with books that involve mythology.

Drawing inspiration from her own favourite authors, Maya has actually started to write her own novel. This is something that has been on her to-do list for a while, and she is happy to have finally gotten a start on this exciting project. The book is yet to be titled, but so far, Maya says that it focuses on the themes of betrayal and courage, which will influence the plot in major ways. To her, this project means a lot, as after many years of reading various genres and taking time to improve her writing skills, she is happy to be able to put it all together.

It is obvious that writing is a significant part of Maya’s life, but she also has other hobbies and interests. Two sports that she is both a part of and trains in are running, as well as archery. In grade school, Maya was on the track team, and practices archery on the side as an extracurricular pursuit. Maya also likes to explore graphic design and art. She is intrigued by and loves the fact that you can create and have so much freedom when you make art.

In the end, however, everything circles back to writing. Maya’s main aspiration and dream future in her life is to have a career as an author. This way, she could do what she loves full time, and get paid for it too, which is a great combination. She also hopes to publish the book she is currently working on to fulfill a lifelong goal. Good luck Maya!
