November 7th marked the beginning of a new tradition for the Lasers of St Joseph’s High School: the Triple R Rally. These rebranded school gatherings will bring students and staff together to focus on and celebrate each one of the 3 R’s of St Joseph’s–respect, responsibility, and relationships. This particular rally focused on relationships and was full of interesting activities that allowed students of all grades to interact with each other.

As always, the event began with the prayer to St. Joseph led by the Minister of Spiritual Affairs, Alaynah L. After this, the games and performances began.

First was a musical chairs game between students ranging from Grade 9 to Grade 12. It was a tough competition to win, and in the end, a handful of students were victorious. The prize? Free cupcakes from the Student Council bake sale, which had taken place earlier that day.

Next, some of the fall sports teams showed their creativity and humour when Tik Tok videos showcasing the members of each team were projected to the student body. The winner was decided based on the loudness of cheers from the audience. After a close race, the senior boys volleyball team were crowned the winners thanks to their hilarious rendition of Lady Antebellum’s “Need You Now”.

In order to continue the musical theme, the next event was a rap battle. The participants included a grade twelve student pitted against a duo of grade nines. Verses were exchanged back and forth, and support was heavily given by the watching students, through a series of oohs and ahhs.

The final piece of entertainment provided by the rally was a video of the dance performed by the senior leadership students from their recent trip to Muskoka Woods. The dance was a representation of the effort and community that Lasers bring to what they do, and was appreciated by students and staff alike.

The first Triple R Rally of the school year was a great start to what is hopefully a longstanding tradition at St. Joe’s. Thank you to all of the teachers and students who organised it and to everyone who participated in the events!
