Taylor Swift and the Re-Recordings of Her Albums

By: Ceyda Yilmaz

It's been two years since Pop star Taylor swift revealed that she was re-recordings her first 6 albums, causing fans to go wild. Swift released her re-recording of her album “Fearless” earlier this year, almost nine years after the original. Adding her own new personal touches, Including adding “(Taylor's version)” to her new and improved albums and songs.

The whole idea of re-recording her albums came in November of 2018 when Swift had announced that she was leaving Big Machine Records, thanking the founder Scott Borchetta for everything he had done for her in a very heartfelt Instagram post, where she also revealed she was joining Republican records.

Later on, Swift revealed how she had tried to negotiate with her old label, Big Machine Records about gaining ownership on her albums but was quickly turned down. Big Machine Records had later been sold to Scooter Braun an American record executive for around $300 million, giving him ownership of all Swifts and many other young artists music. This announcement did not go good with Swift as her and Braun had not been on good terms before since he had been very close friends with Kanye west, who had interrupted her Best Female Video acceptance speech at the 2009 MTV VMAs.

Swift made her frustration with the situation public in a Tumblr post, saying “When I left my masters in Scott’s hands, I made peace with the fact that eventually he would sell them. Never in my worst nightmares did I imagine the buyer would be Scooter. Any time Scott Borchetta has heard the words ‘Scooter Braun’ escape my lips, it was when I was either crying or trying not to. He knew what he was doing; they both did. Controlling a woman who didn’t want to be associated with them. In perpetuity. That means forever.”

She also revealed more of the situation of when she got turned down by Big Machine Records saying “For years I asked, pleaded for a chance to own my work. Instead, I was given an opportunity to sign back up to Big Machine Records and ‘earn’ one album back at a time, one for every new one I turned in.”.

Finally, after a long public fight with Braun and inspiring speech at the Billboard Women in music celebration in 2019, Swift is taking rightful ownership of her new work and continuing to put fans on the edge of their seats with hints of her next album release after her second re- recording on November 12th where she delivered Red (Taylors Version).

Seems that most fans are very excited for everything to begin again.
