Friday, September 29th 2017 we hosted our annual Terry Fox Walk and a special birthday party setup afterwards at St. Joseph’s Catholic High School. The Terry Fox Walk has been an annual event at St. Joes’ for around 28 years. Terry's acts have truly inspired a big part of Canada, and a huge part of our school.
Earlier on last week during the school’s Canada 150 Week Celebration, students were asked to bring in a $5 donation for an all-access pass to the St. Joes’ Canada 150 birthday party activities, lunch, participation for the Terry Fox Walk, and a donation to the Terry Fox Foundation. St. Joseph’s Catholic High School proudly managed to raise over $5000 CAD for the Terry Fox Foundation. Many teachers and students came together to put this wonderful day into effect, so all could have fun and enjoy it with friends while donating to a good cause.
Students at St. Joes began their day with taking a special picture at the football field, fitting all their classes together to form a “150” in honour of Canada’s 150th birthday. A drone was flown out on top of the whole student body to snap some epic pictures of their setup. Afterwards, they proceeded with Christina A. singing “Oh Canada,” a cheer of “I believe in Terry’s dream” and a short little sing along and dance to “Hotline Bling,” courtesy of the Student Council.

The red and white attire that everyone sported was a perfect touch to a perfect day to represent the national colours of Canada. It really showed everyone coming together to represent something they're proud of.

This years' walk wasn't just a trip to the beach, it was a parade style march to represent a very important figure here at St Joes’. The walk was a way for everyone to show their gratitude for Terry and what he has taught everyone. It was a great success.
Some info about Terry Fox:
Terry Fox was best known across the world as “the man who ran across Canada,” however he was more than just that. He was a Canadian athlete, humanitarian and cancer researcher. In 1977, he was diagnosed with osteogenic sarcoma (a bone cancer) in his right leg. Unfortunately, he had to get his leg amputated. In 1980, with an amputated leg, he went on a long journey; an east coast to west coast run across Canada to raise money and awareness for cancer research. When he reached Thunder Bay, Ontario, on September 1, 1980, he stopped running because his primary cancer had reached his lungs. Soon after, he passed away. To this day, Terry’s organization has raised over $750 million worldwide, and still continues to do so.
