On Friday, October 18th, Alumni and former St. Joe’s faculty were invited to the school for an evening of live entertainment, food, and reminiscing. The event featured various performances by alumni and current students, emceed by Mike Chalut Jr., a St. Joe’s alumnus and current radio personality. It began with a stunning rendition of the national anthem by grade nine student, Krisalyn B., followed by a prayer and blessing by Mrs. Walls and Fr. Rocheleau. After a short message from Mr. LaBute, the showcase was underway.
Alumni were shown several examples of the musical talent at St. Joe’s. This included a dance number by Ms. Chiandussi's dance class, a piano performance by Keagan Y., and a vocal duet by Christina A. and Mr. Morson. Mr. Morson also accompanied alumna, Christie N., onstage for a song. Other acts included a slam poem that was created with alumni and yearbook memories, the “I Am Laser” rant, a brief history of the school from now-retired teacher, Mrs. Wasyluk, and an enthusiastic speech by Mike Chalut Sr.

After the onstage performances, alumni headed to the atrium to mingle and enjoy appetizers served by Student Council members. The food was prepared by Mr. Soks and his student volunteers. At this time, alumni were also able to purchase old yearbooks and Laser jerseys. “Tonight definitely demonstrated all of the reasons why I am proud to be a Laser! It was awesome to see everyone come together to celebrate our school’s thirty years of excellence!” remarked current St. Joe’s Prime Minister, Katelin F.

The Open House was organized by the 30th Anniversary Committee. The teacher-run group worked tirelessly to plan the evening and were very happy to see it come to fruition. “The Open House was a reflection of how truly special and unique St. Joseph’s Catholic High School is for its staff and students, both past and present. It served as a reminder of where we came from and how we’ve been collectively impacted by our shared experiences. I am proud to be a St. Joe’s grad and even more proud to be able to teach and serve in the community that so positively impacted my life so many years ago.” said Mrs. Isabella, one of the heads of the committee.
After the Open House, alumni and teachers headed to Average Joes Sports Bar to continue the celebrations.
Thank you to everyone who was involved in this amazing event that truly demonstrated the longevity of relationships formed at St. Joseph’s. We hope to see you at the next milestone celebration!
