For the second year in a row, Tampon Tuesday, a fundraiser dedicated to supporting women who do not have access to feminine hygiene products, was held at St. Joseph’s. The collection ran from February 25th to Tuesday, March 10th. St. Joseph’s students, teachers, and staff were asked to bring feminine hygiene products to the Chapel and to bring monetary donations to Campus Ministry in the LCC.

In total, the schools participating were able to collect 570 boxes that will be sent to various shelters and food drives in the Windsor area. St. Joe’s alone was able to raise 162 boxes, a number that grade 10 Laser, Jada M., is already preparing to increase next year.

Tampon Tuesday is a fundraiser that was started by Jada in association with Mira G., a grade 12 student at F.J. Brennan Catholic High School. Last year, the two schools were able to collect 450 boxes in total that were given to local charities supporting women in need. Following the fundraiser’s success, Jada and Mira implemented it again in hopes of supporting even more individuals in need.

This year, the school that collected the most feminine hygiene products won $1000, donated by CUPE Local 543, to give to the charity of their choice. This was awarded to Brennan who raised 286 boxes in total. Another addition this year was the amount of schools competing. Along with F.J. Brennan and St. Joe’s, Holy Names Catholic High School, St. Thomas of Villanova Catholic High School, and St. Anne’s Catholic High School competed for the $1000 prize.

Jada said she had a drive to do even better this year. She was much more informed about the topic and was less afraid to talk about it openly. She feels strongly about supporting this cause, and hopes that more people will be able to talk about the importance of access to feminine hygiene products as a result of this fundraiser.
