Teacher Spotlight: Ms. Lariviere

Ms. Lariviere is one of our newest teachers. She has spent the last two years at St. Joe’s, but began teaching in 1998. In her 22 years as a teacher, she has taught mainly social science courses such as Law, English, and Intro to Anthropology, Psychology and Sociology. At St. Joe’s, she has taught History, Geography, and Credit Recovery.

Outside of teaching, she has been active in the Laser community and extracurriculars. This year, our school celebrated its 30th anniversary. Ms. Lariviere was one of the teachers on the committee who spent countless hours planning events and making sure everything was successful (which it definitely was!) Ms. Lariviere was drawn to the 30th anniversary committee because she thought it was a good opportunity to get to know the staff better and lend a helping hand to the event.

Ms. Lariviere was also the teacher moderator for the Senior Girls’ Volleyball team this past season. She explains, “I knew that the girls couldn’t have a team if they didn’t have a teacher moderator, and I have taught many of the girls on the team, so I agreed to take on this role.” She readily admits, “I don’t know anything about volleyball,” but she enjoyed being a part of the team.

Ms. Lariviere has loved teaching at St. Joe’s so far and has had so many great experiences. One of her favourite memories was being part of the Lip Sync last year. “It was both exhilarating and embarrassing, but totally worth it!”

During this time away from school, Ms. Lariviere is keeping busy by posting homework for her students and marking their work. She has also been cleaning her house, taking her dog for walks, and, of course, catching up on Netflix!

Some parting advice from Ms. Lariviere is to get involved during high school. Whether it is in a sport or a club, getting involved will help you forge friendships and become a part of the school community. “However, it is important to know that even though high school is a significant part of life, it is not the only part. After high school, there will be many years to find new friends and be a part of things that will help you grow as a person!”
